Need Some Help Pleasssseee =)

Hello,

This is my first time every writing on a sight such as this so bare with me.=) I am 37 years old I have been working since the age of 16 yrs. old and up until this year I have never had a problem getting a job or getting the job I wanted.
My last job left me feeling very insecure what employers’ are really looking for in their employees. Although I was a temp (agency called TAP - Working strictly for county employees.) I worked for RCRMC a county hospital in Ca. I worked for 2 years always on time, always their, and I was a great employee without a doubt I believe I would eventually be considered for a full time permenate position. Unfortunately this did not happen. I was over looked 3 times for position that came available in my department same job I was doing, a job I believe I was very good at and new inside and out. Most my close co-workers could not understand why I was not hired on yet. In fact on of them even said, " Shelly don't waste your time here anymore if I was you I would look for another job else where." She has been working their for 18 years. She was the type of person that did not say much but when she did it was for a good reason. Anyway to make a long story short the only way to apply for most jobs is either thru e-mail or faxing and I have had no luck and I have applied for at least 50 jobs in the last 3 months. So if anybody can give me some advice or good tips on what to do and what not do I would really appreciate any help I can get.

Shelly...just one quick word of advice. If you go looking for a resume writing service, stay away from AARS through TheSalesLadders.com...or any "Ladders" associated service. They are not trustworthy and you can get where you need to be with your job search an resume materials through one good weekend of research and homework. Definately start with Miriam's Blog Entry and do some Google Searching as well. Knock Em Dead Resumes will help you as well as Knock Em Dead Cover Letters. Have you joined LinkedIn? are you looking for colleagues that may be members. Reading the bios for examples of how to sell yourself on LinkedIn and getting as many legitimate recommendations is important.

I am experiencing the same challenges in the job hunt only I am an actual employee who is ready to move on...this is just a really tight job market with VERY little money. Employers are looking for candidates willing to work for nothing. Hang in there...I know allot of us are hoping for things to turn around.

Thank you Miriam you have brought a smile to my face and have touched my heart because you care. Unfortunately this world is all about self and so face paced that it’s really hard to meet people how ever that may be - internet, face to face, over the phone etc. that actually care. I actually have been feeling really inadequate my last job has left a bad taste in my mouth with a manager that was very condescending, always belittling me, would say things that were down right mean and negative about me as a person. I realize now that I no longer work their and am looking for a new job that that lady verbally abused me and I let her take myself confidence away and now I am left feeling very insecure. The positive side to all this is that I do realize were this feeling has come from and all I need to do is rebuild it back to how I used to be. Thank you!!! =) Shelly

I'm sorry that you're having such a hard time. It's a tough market, and everyone needs to optimize their materials and job search strategies. Since most jobs are found via networking, not actually by applying to postings, it would make sense for you to put together a networking strategy.
